The Secret...Concentrated Polyphenols

The History
First written evidence of green tea benefits recorded in " Pen Ts'ao" by Shen-Nung, the father of Chinese herbal medicine.

Cultivation of green tea began. By this time green tea was revered as a medicine, but not used as a daily beverage. Written records reveal that green tea was used to treat digestive and nervous disorders along. It was also used externally as a paste for rheumatic pain.

Green tea arrives in Japan. Buddhist monks who studied in China planted the first tree shrubs.

Green and black tea trading becomes very popular in China. Lu Yu, poet and scholar, advocated drinking tea as a spiritual ceremony. By then green tea's reputation for prolonging life was well established. Green tea was said to lift the spirits, aid with digestion, enhance general health, and combat fatigue.

Japanese Zen monk Eisai wrote "Maintaining Health by Drinking tea," an entire book on the extraordinary healing power of green tea.

Japan's most prodigious warrior, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, elevated the tea ceremony to greater heights by incorporating codes of harmony, simplicity, reverence for nature, politeness, and proper attitude. These principles still exist today.
